About Kevin

DUI Attorney Kevin BallardKevin Ballard earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice at American Military University while he was serving in the United States Army. He then attended law school in San Francisco at Golden Gate University, and competed on the school’s elite mock trial team, traveling across the country to Chicago and Tampa, acting as one of the captains for the Tampa team. He earned multiple awards including the Witkin and Cali Awards for Criminal Law. Kevin graduated in the top 5% of his law class and was recognized as the top criminal law student by the faculty.

Kevin began his career working for the Solano County District Attorney. As a prosecutor, Kevin was known as a fierce but fair litigator and quickly gained a reputation as one of the top DUI prosecutors in the county, training other deputy district attorneys and advising law enforcement agencies on the investigation and prosecution of DUIs. Kevin also took on some of the more serious misdemeanor crimes such as vehicular manslaughter, sexual battery, and exhibiting a firearm. In his tenure, Kevin handled hundreds of pretrial motions, numerous probation violations, and various appeals.

After leaving Solano County, Kevin joined the Tuolumne County District Attorney where his work focused on prosecuting juvenile crimes and representing juveniles in dependency matters, as well as conducting felony trials. Kevin also became the principle filing deputy for the county, evaluating each drug and alcohol DUI to determine whether or not and what charges would be filed. As a juvenile prosecutor, Kevin worked closely with the probation department and local school districts in the prosecution and resolution of various juvenile crimes from petty theft and vandalism to sex crimes. Kevin is one of the few defense attorneys who has also been trained as a police officer. Kevin is a graduate from the Contra Costa Police Academy, having been trained on police policies, procedures, and investigation techniques. As such, Kevin is in the unique position to not only understand the concepts behind field sobriety tests, he’s actually performed them on individuals. Kevin has worked with law enforcement in the field and at DUI checkpoints to oversee field sobriety tests and drug DUI investigations. As a defense attorney, Kevin has worked to aid and assist his clients to navigate their way through the court system while working to come to a just outcome. Kevin has employed the skills and knowledge he gained through his work as a prosecutor to advise defense attorneys and prosecutors alike throughout California and other states. Considered a rising star among his peers, Kevin's legal writings have been cited in letters to Congress and in briefs to the United States Supreme Court.

When Kevin is not advocating for his clients or providing training to other attorneys, Kevin enjoys hitting the links at local courses. In his spare time, Kevin enjoys playing the guitar and being active with his kid's youth sports programs.
